Women in Technology Uganda aims at Empowering, Inspiring and Training the next generation of Uganda female leaders, business women and technologists.  Our holistic theory of change looks at a girl or young woman’s life in a 360 angle, looking at Personal development, Leadership, Life skill, Health, Computer Science, entrepreneurship & Business skilling and job linkages or smart loans.   In the long run, this creates a community of exemplary women ready to take on careers in technological fields us reducing the gender gap and  business women creating strong and growing SMEs. WITU has established itself as an environment to inspire, train, mentor and share ideas for all budding women in technology in order to realize the vision. We opened the first women focused tech and business hub to support early stage and growing women SMEs.

Meet Our Team


Barbara Birungi Mutabazi

A ground-breaking innovator dedicated to promoting gender equality and the economic empowerment of girls and women, Barbara serves as the executive director of WITU and an active contributor to the budding STEM innovation and entrepreneurship sectors in Africa. She is a Co-Founder and Director of Hive Colab, Uganda’s first technology, innovation, and business accelerator and incubator for East African startups. Barbara’s has over eight years of experience in the community development and IT sectors, focusing on business development by managing and establishing relationships among entrepreneurs, incubators, venture capitalists, and angel funders from Uganda and abroad. Barbara hold a degree in Business Computing from Makerere University Kampala, a post graduate diploma in Project Planning and Management from Uganda Management Institute, and has recently completed a fellowship in Information Systems from University of Salford Manchester, UK.

Head Of Operations & Finance

Leticia Nakitende​

 Leticia oversees the management of day-to-day operations and ensures WITU has the resources and infrastructure to achieve its organizational objectives and target outcomes. She guides all event planning and logistics for WITU events, hackathons, trainings and workshops and coordinates and develops all finance and grant-funding reports. She holds of a Bachelor’s Degree in BA and Accounting and also serves as a certified life skills trainer.


Irene Mutesi

Irene leads and coordinates the WITU hub, our women founders hub and its programs and provides direction, instruction, mentorship and guidance to program assistants. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Project Management, she holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial management, a Bachelor degree of Science in computer science. Irene also offers computer training to the vulnerable girls and young women trained at WITU.

Program Manager

Esther Nansubuga

Esther serves as the WITU program manager where she provides planning, governance and direction for WITU’s programs to ensure all programs are in line with our mission and adhere to organizational quality standards and deliver measurable results. She also serves as a digital skills trainer to the young women at WITU and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology.



Moreen Nasoolo

Moreen is a program officer who leads program planning and implementation of WITU’s program activities. Moreen also serves as the director of the entrepreneurship training at WITU which serves hundreds of young women each year in achieving their goals. Moreen has a Bachelor degree in Social sciences.


Gloria Aketch

Gloria is the Women In Technology Uganda’s front desk officer who ensures that  company inquiries are handled. She also makes sure that phone calls are answered and that the reception area is tidy. She also ensures that visitors are warmly welcomed when they come to our office and are comfortable and taken care of.


Nasaazi Salima Joan

Joan is our M&E /Recruitment assistant who  works with the M&E officer on the organisation’s M&E system. She also works with the recruitment officer to ensure that we recruit the right beneficiary into our program and that the  required number of girls for the training is met. Joan has a bachelor’s degree in mass communication.


Sarah Naiga Noah

Sarah is a monitoring and evaluation/grants officer supports the organization in all data analysis to help ensure accountability and efficiency from start to finish for all programs and projects. She works closely with Program teams to assess project conditions and she facilitates the collection of quality data.
